Applying for a place in Reception

Burlington Infant and Nursery School is in the Royal Borough of Kingston Upon Thames. Each year the borough publishes its school admission criteria and application process in a booklet. This is available online on the borough's website and you can click the link below to download it:

Further information on school admission arrangements can be found here:

We strongly recommend that families read the above admission criteria and arrangements before applying.

All applications must be made online at:

The deadline for applications is 15 January 2024 for children who will join Reception in September 2024.  You can still apply after the deadline but your application will be held on a waiting list and processed by the Council in May onwards.

If you live outside the borough, you can name our school in your own local authority's application form. Please contact your home local authority to obtain a form. In this case, you do not need to apply directly to the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames.

Please note: if your child attends our Nursery, this does not automatically guarantee him / her a place at Reception.  You must make a new application via E-Admissions for your child.

If you have any questions regarding Reception admissions to our school, please contact the Admissions Officer at

Open Days - Autumn 2023

Open days for parents of children who are interested in joining our school for Reception in September 2024 have all taken place in Autumn 2023.  There are no further open day dates planned.  As an alternative, we have created a video tour of our school to show you round our site and inside the classrooms.  Please view this below:

Video Tour of Burlington Infant & Nursery School

This video tour was created during the COVID pandemic in 2020/2021 when in person tours could not take place.  They remain a good reflection of our provision and facilities but please note a few details may now have changed.

Wrap-Around Childcare Provision

We offer wrap-around childcare for our pupils, aged 3 years and above, via our own Breakfast and After-School Club called Acorns.  Please visit the Acorns web page for more details on Acorns:

Transfer to Junior School

Transfer to our paired Junior School follows a similar process and is covered in the booklet described above. Again, applications are processed through your home local authority. If you live in The Royal Borough of Kingston Upon Thames, click below for more details.

Please note: if your child attends our Infants School, this does not automatically guarantee him / her a place at the Junior School.  You must make a new application via E-Admissions for your child.

In-Year Applications

If you are applying for a place in a different year group other than in Reception or Nursery, please complete your local authority's in-year application form. If you live in the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames, please click here:

Changing Schools In-Year

You have a legal right to appeal against a decision not to offer your child a place at any or all of the schools you have applied for (whether that is for Reception or an in-year admission at any other point in their time at Infant school), even though your child may have a place at another school. If you wish to make an appeal regarding admission decisions, please refer to your local authority's policy / website for more information.  If you live in the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames, please click below for more details:
