Summer 1 ‘Here and There’

We started Summer 1 with our new topic ‘Here and There.’ This topic looked at our school, the local town and further afield to explore London. The children have thoroughly enjoyed this topic and they have all been using their Geography skills to learn more about the different environments. We all went on a tour around the school, we explored Google Earth and discussed shops and places in New Malden. We enjoyed making junk modelling versions of places down New Malden high street.  Eventually we moved onto learn about London.

We started the first week off with a Mathematical bang and the maths magician that came in for Maths Day. The children had lots of fun completing lots of different maths based activities in the classroom, followed by a magic show in the small hall. The Magician covered lots of different areas within our maths curriculum including 3D shapes, length and counting.

It was lovely to host Reading Mornings in each class this half term. We have been unable to have parents in school for a few years now due to COVID, so the teachers were blown away to have you all back in their classrooms!

We are very fortunate to have some very musically talented parents in our school. We were all mesmerised by Agatha’s mum playing the cello for us in Assembly.

Towards the end of this half-term we talked more about London and why it is an amazing capital city. This also coincided with the Queen’s Jubilee celebrations. The children have loved learning about different landmarks in London and talking about different types of transport. It has been lovely to see that lots of the children managed to explore London over the half term holiday.

During the last week at school each class celebrated Around the World week with a focus on a different Commonwealth country. Each class enjoyed exploring their different country with the help of Earth Song.

We ended this half term with an amazing Jubilee celebration ion our playground. Thank you to everyone who came, it was lovely to see you all have fun celebrating this amazing occasion.
