Nursery update on Autumn 2

Nursery update on Autumn 2

The Nursery team have been very impressed with how well the children have settled over the term. As a result they are making strong friendships, developing their wonderful little personalities and beginning to make progress in their learning.

As you know in Nursery we take inspiration from seasons, festivals and books. The children have enjoyed going ‘out and about ‘on Tuesdays to observe signs of Autumn. They love kicking through the fallen leaves in the Orchard!

Our favourite book of the term has been ‘What the Ladybird Heard’ by Julia Donaldson. On our ‘out and about’ journeys we followed the route on the map made by the thieves in the book around the farm to find the animals. A great introduction to Geography!

The children loved the book and are now experts at making animal noises. All the plants the children brought in last term have happily survived and this half term we have planted bulbs ready to appear in the Spring!

We have found out about three different festivals this term. During Diwali, we made Diva candle holders out of clay and practised our pencil control making patterns on our hands. We learnt about the Jewish festival of Hanukkah and finally Christmas.

Despite being in isolation for the time we should have been practising the songs for our Christmas concert the children sang beautifully and knew all the words and actions by the final performance! Thank you for helping them practise at home, and posting pictures on Tapestry of all the other activities you did with them when nursery sadly had to close because of Covid-19. We ended the year in fine style with a Christmas party and lots of dancing and games!
