Reception - 1st half of Summer term

Reception - 1st half of Summer term

Summer 1 was the start of our new topic ‘Here, There and Everywhere.’ This topic started with us looking at our school and New Malden. We had lots of fun in the different classes, we were even able to make a junk model of our high street looking closely at the different shops and landmarks and where they were located.

The first week back at school also saw us celebrating Maths Day.  We read the story ‘Charlotte’s piggy bank’ by David McKee and the children explored money in lots of different ways. We practised using our knowledge of addition to add coins together, and we also made our own piggy banks!

As we expanded on our topic, we started to explore all things London. We discussed different landmarks and how London is different to other locations. The children also enjoyed learning about the Royal Family. Thank you to all of the families that loaded pictures of their London trips onto Tapestry for us to share at school.

To finish this half term, we loved celebrating with Around the World Week. Each class picked a different country to focus on for the week (Foxes- Korea, Rabbits-Scotland, Squirrels-Mexico, Hedgehogs-China). The children had a jammed packed week exploring different aspects of these different countries.

We were very lucky to have been visited by ‘Earth Song’ who held multicultural music workshops for each class. The children were mesmerised by the opportunity to play different musical instruments from around the world.
