Reception Baseline Assessment

Reception Baseline Assessment

Dear Parents/Carers,

As you may already be aware, a new statutory Reception Baseline Assessment (RBA), was introduced in September 2021. The RBA  is a short, interactive and practical assessment of your child’s early literacy, communication, language and mathematics skills when they begin in school. It will be undertaken with your child’s class teacher.

Your child’s class teacher will spend around 20 minutes administering the assessments and they will begin week commencing 18th September.  The results will not be shared with the school or yourselves.  When your child reaches Year 6, you will be able to see the progress your child has made throughout their school journey.  The purpose of these assessments are to provide a starting point to measure the progress schools make with their pupils between Reception and Year 6.

If you wish to read further on the reception baseline, then you can find a useful parent booklet here;

We would like to reassure you that the children will not feel pressured to perform and they will simply be playing a fun game whilst the teacher carries out the assessment.

If you have any questions then please feel free to speak to your child’s class teacher.

Many Thanks, Reception team
