Welcome to our Year 1 page

Welcome to our Year 1 page

We have been really pleased with how well the children have settled back into school and how quickly they have got back into the routine of playing well with their friends and working hard in class.

Our topic this half term is ‘Paws, Claws, Whiskers and Wings’.  We are really enjoying this topic as we get to learn about fun and interesting animals. In this topic we have been learning about different types of animals and how they are the same and different from each other.

In maths we have been learning about numbers.  We have been revisiting the principles of counting and how we can say the numbers that is one more and one less.  We are trying to use lots of practical resources to help us with our learning.  We play lots of games which is always popular.

During transition time we have also been spending time looking at world maps and starting to learn about the different continents around the world.  We have been doing a range of creative activities such as creating pictures through  painting and collage.  There are so many creative children in Year 1!

We have been reading lots of stories, including those that are about the animals we are learning about.  We have started to practise our writing and focusing on sounding out unknown words and composing simple sentences.  We can already see lots of progress!

We hope that you have found the recent newsletter and presentation helpful, however, if you have any questions, please e-mail the office and we will respond as quickly as we can.  If you have not already done so, please sign the Tapestry Online User Agreement to activate your child’s account.

Thank you for your continued support.
