Year 1 update on Autumn 1

Year 1 update on Autumn 1

In Year 1 all the children have been very busy.  We have all loved learning about different animals.  We learnt the different features of the different animal groups: fish, birds, reptiles and mammals.  We can now look at an animal and decide what type of animal it is.  Did you know there are only two types of mammals that lay eggs?

We have also been learning about the world and are beginning to name the different continents and oceans.

We used our mapping skills to draw a map of the school playground.

In English we have been writing fact books, poems and a warning poster for the tadpoles to stop them being eaten by the fish Big Blub.

Also, we have been very creative and been inspired by Henri Rousseau to create our own jungle artwork.  We used different types of paint brushes to paint thick and thin lines.  We then added a ripped paper collage to give the effect of long grasses.

Please take a look at our display that shows our artwork and poetry linked to Rousseau's painting.

Have a great half term and we look forward to seeing you soon.
